Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is 2 Step 4 Kids?

2 Step 4 Kids is a program that teaches good nutrition and the importance of exercise. It was developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana and Pennington Biomedical Research Center as a kid-specific component of the Louisiana 2 Step (www.Louisiana2Step.com).

  2. Is this a weight-loss program?

2 Step Kids encourages healthy habits in eating and exercise. We do not promote any particular weight-loss or calorie-cutting program. Please seek the advice of your child’s doctor before beginning any such programs.

  3. Why does my child have to register?

By registering, a child has access to all our games and tools and can save his or her scores and log entries (Step It Up, Daily Grub, Daily Groove). This stored data cannot be viewed by anyone but the child.

  4. What data is collected?

During registration a username, password, password hint, birth month, birth year and gender are gathered.

During visits, kids can choose to enter number of steps or miles walked per day, if they have moved 60 minutes that day (daily groove) and number of fruits and vegetables eaten that day (daily grub).

  5. Why do you collect birthday and gender information?

Birthday and gender information is stored to make future enhancements easier. Some nutritional calculations that may appear in site updates require such data.

  6. Can I cancel my child’s account?

Yes, to cancel your child’s account, send a request along with the child’s username and security question response to privacy.office@bcbsla.com.

  7. How can my child join a school group or team?

Teachers can set up groups for a class or school. The children will be provided a special web address (URL) that they should go to. If a child is already a 2 Step member, he or she simply enters the address and logs in to join the group. If not a member, the child enters the address then joins on that page to become part of the group.

The child will not lose his points or account if the he or she is removed from the group.

  8. Will a teacher or group leader be able to view my child’s information?

Group leaders can only see group totals and percentages of participation. They do not have a list of members nor do they see individual member activities.

  9. Can users interact on 2 Step 4 Kids?

No. Members’ accounts are exclusive. They cannot chat or interface with other users.

  10. What can I do if my child loses his username or password?

It is best to make a note of the username and password and keep it in a safe place. If your child forgets his or her password, use the password hint question. However, we cannot help recall usernames. If the username or password hint is lost, the child will have to register again and start over.
